Description & history of the CHARLES'S EARL GREY
Description & history of the CHARLES'S EARL GREY
The original recipe is attributed to Count Charles Grey (1764-1845). Either he would have created it himself, having received a bergamot fruit which he tried in the tea he drank, or it was his servant who would have taken the initiative of adding a slice of bergamot to the tea of his master, to mask mediocre black tea, or water that tasted bad. There are many other variations of this story, which help make Earl Grey a legendary tea. Having become Prime Minister, Charles Grey had no difficulty in promoting his favorite tea to all British people. Two tea houses took over and promoted it worldwide. Having become a symbol of the famous “Tea Time” (or “Five o'clock Tea”) and of an entire people, the delicious Earl Grey must absolutely be drunk with your little finger in the air.
