Description & history of the SMOKED LAPSANG SOUCHONG
Description & history of the SMOKED LAPSANG SOUCHONG
Smoked tea is more than a delicious taste variety, it is one of the significant elements in the history of tea in China. The legend of Lapsang Souchong tells that its smoky taste was discovered accidentally, at the beginning of the Qing era (17th century): an army settled for a while in the village of Tong Mu (Fujian), known for its green teas, thus disrupting the work of the peasants. To avoid the definitive rotting of the harvest, a clever peasant hastily decided to dry the tea leaves, which had already oxidized, over a pine wood fire: the first black tea in China was born, smoked moreover, which greatly pleased the Dutch merchants and much later became the favorite tea of Winston Churchill. It is also rich in antioxidants and flavonoids.
